Rock Bottom

Divorce feels like rock bottom.

It’s a stripping away of everything familiar and inviting you to reacquaint yourself with you.

When you say yes to this invitation, the rock bottom because the solid foundation on which you build a life so good it doesn’t make sense.

I see people making two mistakes. One, they resist hitting rock bottom. They fight and scream and push against the emotional pain of divorce. This prolongs the suffering and prevents healing. Second, they hit rock bottom and stay there. They swim in self-pity and continue to look outside of themselves for emotional comfort. They blame others for their emotional pain and refuse to accept the silver linings found at rock bottom.

That’s not who you are…and that’s why you ended up here, reading these words.

Hit rock bottom. Embrace it. But don’t stay there forever. Commit to rebuilding yourself and your life. It’s hard, yes. It’s also the best.
